We’re particularly excited to share in our work bringing the benefits of solar energy to low income communities. We are currently the project lead for the Capitol Solar Canopy Cooperative, an initiative funded by the District of Columbia’s Department of Energy and the Environment and the U.S. Department of Energy, to deploy one megawatt of solar canopies on the surface parking lots of multi-family affordable housing in the District of Columbia in order to directly reduce the electricity bills of the low-income tenants of the adjacent buildings by as much as 50%. We are seeking to partner with low-income housing owners with suitable properties. In exchange for leasing a property’s rooftops and surface parking area, the owner of master-metered and tenant-metered buildings may be able to receive significant lease payments, renovated roofs, and more financially stable tenants.

Solar for All, a program of the District of Columbia’s Department of Energy and Environment, seeks to provide the benefits of solar electricity to 100,000 low-income households and reduce their energy bills by 50% by 2032. The program, which was established by the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) Expansion Amendment Act of 2016, is funded by the Renewable Energy Development Fund (REDF).
